Such is Cortijo Siete Calas — a retreat nestled in the heart of Almería, where nature and design merge in a serene exercise of harmony, and which we had the pleasure of visiting this summer. From the very first glance, this enclave whispers calm, authenticity and understated beauty.
Light, Materiality and Silence
From the moment you step inside, a warm, almost tactile atmosphere surrounds you. Whitewashed walls, exposed wooden beams, natural stone underfoot and a neutral palette that amplifies natural light create a space that is not only seen, but truly felt.
The bathrooms, defined by clean lines and noble materials, become intimate sanctuaries of wellbeing. The use of tadelakt, backlit niches, herringbone ceramic textures and matte gold fittings are details that elevate the everyday experience. A sensory approach to design that transforms the functional into something contemplative.
Design that Accompanies, Never Interrupts
The cortijo’s interior architecture honours its rural heritage while introducing contemporary elements with effortless balance. We are particularly inspired by its ability to integrate the new without compromising the essential: the arches, the proportions of the volumes, the warmth of timber doors and joinery. Everything has intention. Everything has soul.
The bedroom, framed by a soft semicircular arch, reminds us that design can feel like an embrace. The bed becomes the emotional centre of the space, enveloped in gentle textures and soft lighting — a room conceived for true rest.
An Exterior that Speaks
Stepping outside, the narrative continues. White façades, a sequence of patios, Mediterranean vegetation — agaves, dwarf palms, lavender — and a stone pool that appears to emerge organically from the earth. Every element speaks of a way of living that is deeply respectful of its surroundings.
